“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Is probably the most recognized and quoted piece of the Declaration of Independence, however during our current social environment its application appears to be ignored.
Tensions between political parties, ethnicities, and the citizens of our country are at a fever pitch, and are stoked daily by a media that has abandoned its purpose of reporting the news. They too often concoct a false narrative or highly biased story that tells the story they want to report instead of just telling the actual story and allowing the reader or viewer to decide. Published and broadcast stories are misreported or include erroneous information that skews and hides the truth. Retractions are seldom forthcoming or inaccurate information corrected. This leaves the public believing a false and misleading narrative. Are these a deliberate attempt by the media to sway public opinion and outright deceive people? With the frequency of fraudulent and inaccurate reporting by the mainstream media it is difficult to overlook this as being nothing less than a coordinated effort to support their narrative against our duly elected president, conservatives, caucasians, or anyone else they deem as the opposition. If the purpose of today’s media is to create unrest and cause division amongst the citizens of the United States they have done a great disservice to our nation.
It is apparent to me that the media’s objective is to divide the country racially, and economically per the directive of a radical and ultra liberal political party that wants nothing more than total power to enact laws that will eliminate the rights granted to its citizens as stated in the Declaration of Independence our Constitution. Don’t believe that I am naive to think it is only one party. Both the democrats and republicans are at fault for not ensuring that our laws are enforced and applied equally for all citizens of the United States regardless of race, social or political standing, or economics.
I have a unique perspective with regard to the current racial tension being experienced in our country. I am a white male who is married to a black woman. She often provides a perspective to me that provides insight into the black culture. She is also open to listening and understanding my perspective on racial matters. What we both have come to determine is that we both are United State citizens. Our families came from different parts of the world, and without losing or ignoring our heritage we are Americans first and foremost. Neither of our families participated in the founding of this country, nor are we responsible for the sins of the past. Our history as American’s may be limited, but our belief in the concepts that the founders of this country instituted are ageless. We support the laws and institutions of our country, and though they may not be perfect they provide each of us with unique freedoms not granted by foreign countries. Freedom of speech, to assemble peacefully, religion, self defense, and most importantly to vote for representatives without fear of persecution.
How long these freedoms will be available is what concerns us as there are those who believe that the best scenario is for a reduction or complete removal of these freedoms and granting all power to the government. I was always taught that we the people, the citizens of the United States of America were the government, and not only those people elected to represent us.
I too often see and hear the argument that our government, its laws and economic system are outdated and flawed and need to be changed. My question is what system is better than ours? Certainly not socialism/communist/marxist as they all have failed and enslaved its citizens.
